Sister Julie Fielding
Where were you born?
Orange County, California. Yep, from the Beach Boys to Kay Perry, I'm a California Girl/Gurl, even though we moved from there when I was ten...
If you are married, how did you meet your husband? How did he propose?
We met in high school when we were seminary officers together as seniors, despite the fact that we had gone to school together since we were sophomores. He asked a friend who I was and the friend's reply was "Buffalo Buns" a name I had never heard before, and have never heard since, but the buffalo has become a part of our family. Notice out doorbell the next time you stop by...
He proposed by putting my ring in a piece of cake served as dessert after dinner at his parent's house in from of his parents, his best friend, and his best friend's date-of-the-day. It has since been listed as one of the Top 10 Worst Ways To Propose, literally. Oh, and it was on Valentine's Day, something that is also on the list. It proves it doesn't matter how or when, but who-I still married him, obviously, and it has stuck for 33 year thus far.
My favorite food is:
That's a tough one to narrow down, but I will go with chocolate, chocolate, or chocolate.
My favorite hobby is:
Grandkids, traveling, piano, jigsaw puzzles, reading, biking, organizing, laughing.
My favorite restaurant is:
Mama's Fish House in Maui. I don't like fish, so I ordered the only non-fish thing on the menu. Best ribeye steak I have had in my entire life, in the most beautiful setting.
The music I listen to most is:
I have the most eclectic music rates of anyone you will ever meet. Ricky Martin got me through my 40th birthday. Mumford and Sons got me through our house build, and the Piano Guys are my heroes. I love just about everything, except country. No. Country.
My favorite thing to buy is:
Anything and everything for my grandkids that I could never afford to buy my own kids when I was a young mom.
The city I would most like to visit is:
Amsterdam. Kevin served there on his mission and I wrote to him while he was gone (Clarification...I did not wait for him, but I was conveniently available upon his return. After he proposed, I told him if he hadn't, I would have sued him for postage). The plan was to go there this year but we built a house instead, so the new plan is to go there in April/Map 2015.
The best vacation I ever had was:
Grand Cayman-Caribbean beach water is the best and swimming with stingrays is cool when your'e too afraid to put your face in the water to snorkel. And Kevin was happy because we went to the movie theater and saw the newest release of Pirates of the Caribbean while IN the Caribbean. He thought that was pretty cool. I love it when he's happy on a vacation and it doesn't involve a long hike.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
To understand the scriptures more easily the first time I read them and to play the guitar. I bought all the David Ridges books to help with the first, and I actually took some guitar lessons several years ago, by my size, combined with my T-Rex arms, made for a less than successful endeavor. I will keep trying though, because the piano is a bugger to take to a campfire.
What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
Cleaning toilets, no contest.
What do you think is your very best feature or characteristic?
My sense of humor. It has allowed me to counterbalance the over-productive tear ducts I have been "blessed" with and it has allowed me to survive a whole lot of other "blessings."
What is the "thing" you are most grateful for?
The internet and my electronic devices. I have been able to maintain contact with childhood friends, high school friends, old ward members, neighbors, co-workers, distant relatives, and many of the junior high and high school students I have worked with over the years. The internet also allows me to complete this questionnaire while in my jambes at 12:43 a.m. and deliver it without bothering anyone in the middle of the night!
