Sister Spotlight-KaCee Smuin

Sister KaCee Smuin

Where were you born?:  Salt Lake City, Utah
How did you meet your husband?  How did he propose?:  Spencer and I met in high school.  He asked me to go to Prom with him because he found out that my stalker was going to ask me so he tried to get to me first; we’ve been dating ever since!  He proposed here in St. George after he got back from his mission and we just celebrated our two year anniversary this week.
My favorite food is: Chips and Dips.  I also really love chocolate.
My favorite hobby is: Reading, Movies, Mario Kart, and Reading.
My favorite restaurant is: The Olive Garden.
The music I listen to most is: Owl City.
My favorite thing to buy is: Shoes, Purses, or Books.
The city I would most like to visit is: New York City.  I have always wanted to go and see the sights and walk around Times Square.
The best vacation I ever had was: This summer when Spencer and I went to Disneyland.  It was his first time and my millionth time so it was a blast to show him everything and to go back and visit.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?: I really want to learn how to draw/sketch and I really want to learn how to cook better.  A dream job would to be a chef.
What chore do you absolutely hate doing?: Dusting.  Hands down.
What do you think is your very best feature or characteristic?: I love to laugh and I think that my sense of humor is one of my best features.  I enjoy a good joke or story and I feel like I have some good ones!

Favorite Conference Quotes

A week ago I ask for your favorite quote from conference.  Here is one from Sister Malynn Cutler.

" We might all ask ourselves:  do our children receive our best spiritual, intellectual, and creative efforts, or do they receive our leftover time and talents, after we have given our all to our Church calling or professional pursuits?  In the life to come, I do not know if titles such as Bishop or Relief Society President will survive, but I do know that the titles of husband and wife, father and mother, will continue and be revered, worlds without end.  That is one reason it is so important to honor our responsibilities as parents here on earth so we can prepare for those even greater, but similar, responsibilities in the life to come."

Where were you born?
Orange County, California. Yep, from the Beach Boys to Kay Perry, I'm a California Girl/Gurl, even though we moved from there when I was ten...
If you are married, how did you meet your husband?  How did he propose?
We met in high school when we were seminary officers together as seniors, despite the fact that we had gone to school together since we were sophomores.  He asked a friend who I was and the friend's reply was "Buffalo Buns" a name I had never heard before, and have never heard since, but the buffalo has become a part of our family.  Notice out doorbell the next time you stop by...

He proposed by putting my ring in a piece of cake served as dessert after dinner at his parent's house in from of his parents, his best friend, and his best friend's date-of-the-day. It has since been listed as one of the Top 10 Worst Ways To Propose, literally.  Oh, and it was on Valentine's Day, something that is also on the list.  It proves it doesn't matter how or when, but who-I still married him, obviously, and it has stuck for 33 year thus far.
My favorite food is:
That's a tough one to narrow down, but I will go with chocolate, chocolate, or chocolate.
My favorite hobby is:
Grandkids, traveling, piano, jigsaw puzzles, reading, biking, organizing, laughing.
My favorite restaurant is:
Mama's Fish House in Maui.  I don't like fish, so I ordered the only non-fish thing on the menu. Best ribeye steak I have had in my entire life, in the most beautiful setting.
The music I listen to most is:
I have the most eclectic music rates of anyone you will ever meet. Ricky Martin got me through my 40th birthday.  Mumford and Sons got me through our house build, and the Piano Guys are my heroes.  I love just about everything, except country.  No.  Country.
My favorite thing to buy is:
Anything and everything for my grandkids that I could never afford to buy my own kids when I was a young mom.
The city I would most like to visit is:
Amsterdam.  Kevin served there on his mission and I wrote to him while he was gone (Clarification...I did not wait for him, but I was conveniently available upon his return. After he proposed, I told him if he hadn't, I would have sued him for postage).  The plan was to go there this year but we built a house instead, so the new plan is to go there in April/Map 2015.
The best vacation I ever had was:
Grand Cayman-Caribbean beach water is the best and swimming with stingrays is cool when your'e too afraid to put your face in the water to snorkel.  And Kevin was happy because we went to the movie theater and saw the newest release of Pirates of the Caribbean while IN the Caribbean.  He thought  that was pretty cool.  I love it when he's happy on  a vacation and it doesn't involve a long hike.
If you could learn to do anything, what would it be?
To understand the scriptures more easily the first time I read them and to play the guitar.  I bought all the David Ridges books to help with the first, and I actually took some guitar lessons several years ago, by my size, combined with my T-Rex arms, made for a less than successful endeavor.  I will keep trying though, because the piano is a bugger to take to a campfire.
What chore do you absolutely hate doing?
Cleaning toilets, no contest.
What do you think is your very best feature or characteristic?
My sense of humor.  It has allowed me to counterbalance the over-productive tear ducts I have been "blessed" with and it has allowed me to survive a whole lot of other "blessings."
What is the "thing" you are most grateful for?
The internet and my electronic devices.  I have been able to maintain contact with childhood friends, high school friends, old ward members, neighbors, co-workers, distant relatives, and many of the junior high and high school students I have worked with over the years.  The internet also allows me to complete this questionnaire while in my jambes at 12:43 a.m. and deliver it without bothering anyone in the middle of the night!

I was born in a small town in Northern California (Sutter Creek) but have lived most my life in Utah.
I met my husband, Doug in our BYU ward. He is from Las Vegas & I am from Sandy, UT.
I am a Registered Nurse, but not currently working as one.  I teach piano lessons most afternoons. I LOVE teaching piano!!!
I have 4 kids, Bradley-15, Melissa-12, Katelyn-9, & Juliana 6.  They keep me more than busy! I love to attend their gymnastics or track meets to cheer them on!  We have a cockatiel named "Mo" who is my little buddy!
My favorite food is Shrimp & Lasagna.
I like to scrapbook and I am actually caught up!! I love to print my photos and get them organized before too much time goes by.  I also have made quite a few photo books for anniversary's, family reunions, and vacations.
My favorite restaurant right now is Pancho & Lefty's- I LOVE their fajita's!!!
I love to shop for bargains & I have taught my kids to work hard
I don't enjoy cleaning my house.  I am much better at organizing my life, my time, scheduling carpools and piano lessons.
I have had a few great vacations: When I was younger my family took us on a church history tour back east & we also went to Samoa where my aunt and her family were living at the time.  With my husband we have gone to Cancun and Porta Villarta, Mexico, Hawaii, Toronto, Canada and church history sites in and around Palmyra, NY -- we are excited to go to Alaska next summer!!!  I would love to visit Europe someday.
